What is an acute care visit?
Acute care in medicine refers to moderate to severe, short-term conditions. There are two types of acute care - emergency and non-emergency. For emergency conditions you should seek treatment at an emergency room facility. Other conditions can be addressed in a non-emergency setting, such as the services available at Coastal Gateway Health Center.

What if I'm not sure?
It's not always easy to be certain if a condition warrants an ER visit or clinic visit. If you are experiencing a life threatening medical condition or serious injury, you should always go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
