What is Cancer Screening?
Cancer Screening means testing for signs of cancer before you have symptoms. Some types of cancer may be detected in the early stages. Early detection can make the disease easier to treat or even cure in some cases. Screening tests are recommended based on age and risk factors.
Why should I be screened?
• To potentially detect cancer early, prior to any symptoms
• To diagnose cancer before it has time to spread
• To detect indicators which may mean a higher risk for cancer
Should I be screened for cancer?
Your healthcare provider will review any risk factors you may have as well as age considerations and make recommendations accordingly.
What can go wrong?
Screening tests are not 100% accurate, but this doesn’t mean you should not be screened. While it’s possible to have a false positive or false negative result, the benefits far outweigh any negatives.
What are some of the common screening tests?
• Breast cancer screening
• Cervical cancer screening
• Prostate screening
• Colorectal cancer tests
• Lung cancer screening
• Ovarian cancer screening
